  • Pediatric Patients: The dosage for pediatric patients is based on their body surface area (BSA) and is calculated using the child’s age and weight. The standard dosage is 5 mg/m² of ondansetron, with a maximum single dose of 8 mg. The injection is administered either IV or IM, and the frequency of dosing depends on the specific treatment regimen. 

Dosage for Postoperative Nausea and Vomiting 

To alleviate postoperative nausea and vomiting, the recommended dosage of ondansetron injection is: 

  • Adults: A single dose of 4 mg of ondansetron, administered IV or IM, is typically sufficient to manage postoperative nausea and vomiting. In some cases, an additional 4 mg dose may be given if necessary. 
  • Pediatric Patients: The dosage for pediatric patients is determined based on their BSA. The standard dosage is 0.1 mg/kg of ondansetron, with a maximum single dose of 4 mg. The injection is administered IV or IM, and the frequency of dosing depends on the individual patient’s needs.
